About Our Parish

First-Grace Lutheran Parish is located in Western Sullivan County, New York, an historic county noted for being the site of the original Woodstock concert back in 1969. Sullivan County is known as "the foothills of the Catskill Mountains", and its beautiful scenery, particularly in the seasons of summer and autumn draw many visitors and second home owners to the area. In addition, Sullivan County offers a variety of recreational activities such as rafting down the Deleware River, horseback riding, golfing at the former Groessinger's Resort in Liberty, or skiing at the Villa Roma or Holiday Mountain.

First Lutheran Church is located in Jeffersonville. In 2002, it celebrated 150 years of ministry to the community and the county. First Church began as a Reformed church, becoming Lutheran in 1917. First Church has much to offer to the community: a nursery school for children ages 4 or 5, a food pantry, and it lets area groups such as the Boy Scouts and Garden Club meet in the building.

Grace Lutheran Church is located in North Branch. In 2001, it celebrated 130 years of ministering to the community and to the county. Grace Church began as a Reformed Church in 1871, meeting in the nearby Methodist Church until the current sanctuary could be built in 1933. Grace Church became Lutheran in 1963. Grace Church has much to offer the community: a food co-op, a food pantry, a thrift shop with a special room for children's clothing, toys, etc, an emergency panty for parents, and it runs Room at the Inn, which are transitional apartments for local teen mothers and their children.

First and Grace Churches joined together as a parish in 1991, and since that time have worked together on many mission projects. Currently, both churches worship together once a month and enjoy fellowship together during a joint coffee hour. Also, the two churches enjoy Advent and Lenten services together, as well as Bible studies, and joint youth group events.
